Canadians will likely be able to buy cannabis edibles, extracts and topicals legally by Christmas.
Health Canada announced Friday that new regulations will come into effect on October 17.
But because federal licence holders must provide 60 days notice of their plan to sell the products, it will be at least mid-December before a “limited selection” will be available, according to the federal agency.
Edible cannabis will have a cap of 10 milligrams of THC per package while extracts and topicals will have a cap of 1,000 milligrams.

All packaging must be plain, child-resistant, contain a health warning message, and not be appealing to youth.
They also cannot have any elements which would associate the product with alcoholic beverages, tobacco or vaping products.
Health Minister Ginette Petitpas Taylor said the regulations will support their overarching goal of keeping cannabis out of the hands of youth.
