The taxi industry wasn’t ready for metered cabs and there’s too much confusion for both cab drivers and cab riders. That admission from the Taxi Advisory Committee which is recommending changes to Common Council.
The Taxi Advisory Committee is recommending changes in the metered rates. If approved, the rate will rise from 3 to 5 dollars as soon as you get in the cab. Once you get going the rate will drop from $1.64 per kilometer to $1.10.
The taxi industry is said to be concerned with high rates for riders and the imbalance between what’s charged for short and long distance runs.
