Changes To City’s Use Of Sidewalks Bylaw Approved

Saint John council has approved changes to the city’s use of sidewalks bylaw.

Under the amendment, proof of insurance is required for comprehensive general liability for sidewalk cafés.

“Not less than $2,000,000 naming the City as additional insured and containing a cross-liability clause if the applicant does not serve alcohol; or not less than $5,000,000 naming the City as additional insured and containing a cross-liability clause if the applicant serves alcohol,” reads the amendment.

The amendment also outlines parking fees and submission requirements for sidewalk cafés, as well as permission requirements for sidewalk vendor sites.

It also removes outdated sections of the bylaw related to sidewalk openings.

A staff report outlines there are no new fees and no additional costs to applicants.
