Saint John police have arrested three youths following a pair of recent assaults involving a chemical irritant in the city.
A 17-year-old youth was arrested for assault with a weapon on Feb. 24 after a transit driver was allegedly sprayed a week earlier.
The incident, according to investigators, happened along King Street uptown shortly after 10:30 p.m. on Feb. 17.
Police said after the driver dropped off three teens, one of the teens sprayed a chemical irritant into the bus.
Paramedics treated the driver at the scene and no other physical injuries were reported.
Meanwhile, two 14-year-olds have been arrested for assault with a weapon in connection with a separate incident involving a taxi driver.
Police were called to Princess Elizabeth School at around 8:10 p.m. on Feb. 20 after a 52-year-old man was sprayed with a chemical irritant.
The driver reportedly picked up a man and a woman at a grocery store on Somerset Street and drove them to the school parking lot.
After exiting the vehicle, the man allegedly sprayed the driver, who was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
All three youths have been released from custody and are scheduled to appear in court at later dates.
Meanwhile, no charges have been laid yet in a third incident which saw a teen walking along Technology Drive robbed of his belongings and sprayed with a chemical irritant.
That incident happened about an hour before the alleged taxi driver assault. The teen was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, according to police.
