Charity of the Week: Safe with Sage

There are many charities in Saint John and the surrounding area. You’ve probably heard some of their names, but may not know exactly what they do. Each week, we’ll highlight a different organization, sharing who they are and the work they do. We’ll also let you know about any upcoming events where you can learn more or get involved.

This week’s Charity of the Week is the Safe with Sage.

Who?

Safe With Sage is a nonprofit organization based in Saint John, New Brunswick, created to support autistic children and their families. Founded by a local mother and father to autistic child, Sage, the organization is rooted in lived experience and a deep understanding of the need for safe, inclusive spaces within the community.

What?

Safe With Sage provides accessible, sensory-friendly experiences by renting out local spaces specifically for autistic children and their support teams. These environments are designed to reduce overwhelm, encourage comfort, and allow children to enjoy activities in a way that feels safe and supported.

The goal is simple: create spaces where children can be themselves, and families can feel understood—without judgment or pressure.

Through these events and experiences, Safe With Sage also helps build connection between families who share similar lived experiences, fostering a stronger and more supportive local community.

When?

Safe With Sage operates through ongoing, scheduled events and continues to expand its offerings as community needs grow. We aim for 2 events a month, and always on a weekend.

Where?

Based in Saint John and surrounding areas, in New Brunswick, Safe With Sage partners with local venues to host inclusive, sensory-considerate experiences. Events take place throughout the community and are shared online for easy access and registration.

Why?

Many traditional environments can feel overwhelming or inaccessible for autistic children, making it difficult for families to participate in everyday activities or community events.

Safe With Sage was created to change that.

By offering dedicated spaces tailored to the needs of autistic children, the organization ensures that families have opportunities to participate, connect, and enjoy experiences in a way that feels safe, welcoming, and understood.

At its core, Safe With Sage is about belonging—creating moments where children and their families don’t have to adapt to the environment, because the environment is built for them.

  • Krista has worked for Country 94 since Jan 2015 and is currently your host for the LIVE ON THE DRIVE with Krista, Monday through Friday 3-6 pm. What does Krista love about country music? EVERYTHING! She loves interviewing artists like Dean Brody, Tim Hicks, Lindsay Ell, going to concerts and dancing in the control booth on King St.

If you ask Krista her ABSOLUTE FAVOURITE thing, though, about country radio, the answer is the connection with you, the listener. The friendships made over the years with our listeners is second to none.
