Charity of the Week: TRC (Teen Resource Centre)

There are many charities in Saint John and the surrounding area. You’ve probably heard some of their names, but may not know exactly what they do. Each week, we’ll highlight a different organization, sharing who they are and the work they do. We’ll also let you know about any upcoming events where you can learn more or get involved.

This week’s Charity of the Week is TRC (Teen Resource Centre).

Who We Are:

The Teen Resource Centre (TRC) is a safe place where youth between the ages of 13 and 24 can find support to reach their full potential. We provide innovative programs and services such as a space for youth to hang out and feel welcomed, supportive counselling, employment, and educational supports. Please see our website for our schedule and our Facebook for any closures, updates, or special events.

All of our services are free and include:

Drop-in

Drop-in is a free recreation-based after school program offering activities for youth aged 13 to 18. It is a fun and safe environment for teens to bring their friends and make new ones. It is a great place to hang out, have a snack, play some games, and be yourself.

Pathways to Education

This national program’s mission is to break the cycle of poverty through education. It is open to students aged 13 to 18 living in the Saint John area. Pathways provides students with the individualized support they need to finish high school and to successfully transition from high school to post-secondary education or employment.

Oasis Room

The Oasis room offers shower and laundry services for youth aged 16 to 24 who are unhoused, living in unsafe situations, underemployed, or otherwise in need. We also offer snacks, pantry items, clothing, and personal hygiene supplies to youth and young adults in need.

Case Management

Case Management is a unique, enhanced, community-based service providing much needed assistance for youth aged 16 to 24 who are unhoused, living in unsafe situations, underemployed, in conflict with the law, experiencing mental health issues, or are substance users. We serve as community resource connectors and meet youth where they are at to help break down the barriers to achieving their personal goals

NB-IYS

Integrated Youth Services (IYS) offers holistic, low-barrier access to community based services to support the health and well-being of youth and young adults aged 12 to 25 and their families/caregivers. IYS can assist with connections to mental health and addictions counselling, primary care, social programming, and support with education and employment. IYS believes in providing a safe, inclusive environment by creating intentional times and opportunities for the varying ages of the youth we serve. Weekly social programming is provided for youth starting in grade 12 until the age of 25. Youth aged 12 and up can still access one-on-one supports and services.

  • Krista has worked for Country 94 since Jan 2015 and is currently your host for the LIVE ON THE DRIVE with Krista, Monday through Friday 3-6 pm. What does Krista love about country music? EVERYTHING! She loves interviewing artists like Dean Brody, Tim Hicks, Lindsay Ell, going to concerts and dancing in the control booth on King St.

If you ask Krista her ABSOLUTE FAVOURITE thing, though, about country radio, the answer is the connection with you, the listener. The friendships made over the years with our listeners is second to none.
