City Considers 200-Unit Development At East Point

A 200-unit residential development could soon be coming to the East Point area of the city.

Horizon Management Ltd. has applied for a zoning by-law and municipal plan amendment to build three multi-storey buildings with retail on the bottom floor.

Residential development is not currently allowed within the city’s regional retail centres.

In its application, the developer says there are limited opportunities outside of the uptown for the residential-over-retail option, but East Point is an excellent location for it.

It says the mixed-use model is growing in popularity as people look for a more comprehensive shopping and living experience.

City staff say while the proposed municipal plan amendment was prompted by a specific application, it will allow the approach to be considered more broadly in the city’s regional retail centres.

Residents have until March 27 to submit any written objections.
