City Fire, Coast Guard Rescues Man Stranded On Floating Dock

It was a team effort from the Saint John fire department and the Coast Guard to rescue a man stranded on one of the floating docks just below the Reversing Falls restaurant.

Acting platoon chief Todd Walsh tells CHSJ News the man went down there to try and tie off the dock and make it more supportive and while he was out there the walkway portion washed away because of the current so he had no way to walk back to shore.

“At no time…did he appear to be in distress. It was just a concern that because of the high currents that that floating dock that he was standing on may let go. At which time then there’d be a much bigger concern,” says Walsh.

“Saint John fire crews were attempting to get him secured with our rope rescue equipment and personal floatation devices. That was all happening together then the Coast Guard they were able to pull up alongside the dock and get him on their watercraft and take him away safely.”

The man is safe and sound and was checked out by paramedics at the Coast Guard site as a precaution. This call came in just after 12:30 pm today.
