City Fire Crews Battling A Hard To Reach Brush Fire

Ten Saint John firefighters are into day two battling a brush fire in East Saint John.

It’s about a hectare in size and located in a rural area along the NB Power transmission lines about halfway between Golden Grove Road and the Mackay Highway.

Platoon Chief Steve Voutour tells our newsroom conditions are better today.

“It’s not a large fire, it’s more of a smoldering in the ground incident. We are fortunate with the weather right now that it’s not growing a substantial rate.”

Voutour expects they may still be on scene Monday.

They are still trying to gain proper access to the fire and are getting some help from the Departure of Energy and Resource Development on forest fire management.

The location may seem a bit far out for Saint John fire crews but the location is within city limits.
