City Police Nab Escaped Inmate

Saint John police say an inmate is back in custody after fleeing from correctional officers.

Sgt. Ramsay Hunt says officers were called to the city’s east side around 6:15 p.m. Wednesday.

Hunt said the inmate, who was shackled and handcuffed, managed to get out of a corrections vehicle.

Police did not say where the vehicle was located or if it was moving at the time.

The man was arrested by police in the Bayside Drive area not long after and taken into custody for escaping lawful custody, Hunt said.

The accused was being held for a court apperance on Thursday morning.
