Classes Suspended At Mount Allison University Due To Strike

Classes have been suspended until further notice at Mount Allison University in Sackville, N.B.

Full-time faculty and librarians went on strike as of 12:01 a.m. Monday.

Negotiations between the university and its faculty to reach a collective agreement have been ongoing for the past seven months.

A news release posted on the Mount Allison Faculty Association website states the negotiating team recommended to the MAFA Executive that the employer’s offer be rejected.

The university presented an offer to the Mount Allison bargaining team on February 1st, which was discussed in the presence of the provincially-appointed mediator.

The association says their employer has not addressed concerns including workload, accommodation for faculty and librarians with disabilities, part-time job security, and part-time compensation.

The university remains open and all other buildings and services are running on regular hours, with the exception of the Music Library and certain services in the library, which are on reduced hours.
