A popular shortcut for drivers in west Saint John could soon be cut off.
Coun. Barry Ogden is calling for Fallsview Drive to be closed to through traffic.
“A lot of speeders and a lot of locals who come here say it’s crazy this is an open [thru fair], it never used to be,” Ogden wrote in a report presented to council on Monday night.
Fallsview Drive connects to Riverview Avenue West and provides easy access between Bridge Road and Lancaster Avenue.
It is a popular destination for tourists and residents alike to check out the Reversing Falls rapids.
“It’s very dangerous as the traffic speeds through the parking lot where the tourists and locals walk to enjoy this major tourist attraction,” said Ogden.
Ogden said the road should be blocked off in the centre like it used to be so drivers can only acces it from either Bridge Road or Lancaster Road.
Council voted to refer Ogden’s motion to the city manager.
