CN is planning to spend $2.5-billion on improvements to its rail lines and system.

$1.6 billion is specifically earmarked for new rail lines, bridge and branch line upgrades and other tracks maintenance.

That’s about the same amount as last year.

The work will include the replacement of 2.2 million rail ties and installation of more than 600 miles of new rail, plus work on bridges and other general track maintenance.

Another $500-million will be spent on equipment and information technology improvements.
