An investigation is underway into the vandalism of two memorials in Victoria Park.
Moncton Firefighters Association President Al Mitton says he learned of the spray painting after a member messaged him early this morning.

He says the vandalism was quickly addressed by Deputy Fire Chief Don McCabe.
“He had taken care of it already, he’d contacted a mobile pressure wash company to clean both the firefighter monument as well as the police monument,” says Mitton. “So by the time I got there, the bulk of the vandalism had been taken care of.”
Mitton says it’s disappointing to have monuments honouring fallen officers and firefighters vandalized.
He adds the lack of respect is especially discouraging considering this year Moncton is hosting the 9/11 ceremony.
“It goes between Moncton, Fredericton and Saint John, and this is the year Moncton hosts, and unfortunately this is the year we have to put another name on that monument,” says Mitton. “So for us it’s quite discouraging and disappointing.”
The Codiac Regional RCMP is trying to determine when the vandalism occurred.
Police are asking that anyone who may have seen someone loitering around the monuments during the day or evening on Sunday to contact Codiac RCMP at 506-857-2400.
