Comedian James Mullinger Showcases Saint John At 2016 MPI Gala In Ottawa

Comedian James Mullinger, originally from London, England, decided to move to Saint John two years ago and has never looked back.

He decided to move to Saint John after visiting for the past 15 years and says he was in awe of how beautiful it was and how you could be walking down a nature trail, and within a few minutes, be dining at a restaurant uptown.

Mullinger recently showcased the city at the 2016 MPI Gala in Ottawa, which is a a trade convention for city’s and conference organizers who are looking for new places to hold events.

The event has the potential to generate various city’s a lot of money through conventions and events, ultimately leading to economic spin offs.

He says most of his stand up act is about how much he loves Saint John, but was surprised by the negative comments he heard about the city from people who grew up and have lived here their entire lives.

Mullinger says people would ask him why he would ever want to move here from London and tell him he couldn’t be a comedian while in Saint john.

He attributes a lot of those negative comments coming from people who haven’t travelled much and don’t realize how well off they are.

Mullinger says instead of people asking him “why are you here”, they should be asking “why aren’t you here?”.

He says due to the fact a lot of people told him that he “couldn’t be a comedian in Saint John”, he’ll be performing at Harbour Station on April 28th.

Mullinger compares it to someone knowing nothing else but paradise, so they’ll complain about paradise.

Mullinger says he wishes those people could spend a week living in the part of London he used to live in, get on an underground tube everyday and have to wait on a platform for a half an hour because there’s thousands of people there pushing and shoving, while you’ve got your face in someone’s armpit, all for an obscene cost of living.
