Common Council To Receive $152.6 Million Budget On Monday

The Finance Committee for Saint John is recommending Common Council approve a budget of $152.6 million on Monday night.

There are no changes in the draft budget which saw staff recommend cuts of $1.25 million for each the fire and police departments.

Finance Committee Chair, Councillor David Merrithew says this process began in February and a great deal of work by staff went into getting this budget prepared.

Merrithew says no one likes to have to present budgets like this but the city of Saint John needs long-term planning in order to turn the corner, something he is optimistic will happen.
