In spite of just a marginal increase in its tax base last year, the city, in a report to Common Council, claims it maintained a strong financial position in 2014, recording a surplus of more than 11.7 million dollars.
The police department is reporting, as of April 30th, it was under budget by 268 thousand dollars, much of that being lower wages and benefits than were projected.
The Transit Commission is 81 thousand dollars over budget. Council has been told last month, with reduced levels of bus service, City Transit was under budget by 15 thousand dollars.
