Common Councillor David Merrithew doesn’t think city taxpayers are getting a return on the 270 thousand dollars they give to Saint John Development after hearing a presentation by General Manager Kent McIntyre on waterfront development this week. Merrithew is dissatisfieid with the answers he heard.
Merrithew is frustrated at the lack of progress on developing the Coast Guard site. He also questions why you would spend time going through the process of coming up with grand schemes when the money isn’t there to pay for them, at least from city coffers.
O n Partridge Island, Merrithew says they should tell the federal government to make it a national park and be done with it.
There’s still no location for the Marco Polo replica tall ship which remains in storage on the west side. We put in a call to McIntyre about whether Market Slip is being considered or anywhere along the waterfront for that matter. The Marco Polo wasn’t mentioned at all during the presentation to Council.
