Former Provincial Justice Minister T-J Burke will have to respond to a complaint at a hearing before a discipline committee of the New Brunswick Law Society.
The hearing will determine whether Burke put his professional independence as a lawyer in jeopardy by acting in a conflict of interest.
n 2012, Burke was both chief financial officer and human resources director of a company called ABC Limited. According to the complaint, he provided legal services to the company for his own personal benefit.
Burke is accused of failing to inform shareholders of the company’s financial difficulties even though he became aware of substantial financial losses.
