It’s a mega deal for Cooke Inc, the parent company of Cooke Aquaculture based in Black’s Harbour.
It has bought out the remaining shares of Omega Protein Corp, North America’s largest supplier of fish meal and Omega 3 fish oil.
The price tag is a half billion dollar US and V-P of Public Relations, Joel Richardson, says they are are getting facilities in the United States, Canada and Europe and there are 1,000 employees at the US operations.
Richardson says Cooke was actually a customer of Omega’s fish meal and the company supplied five percent of the fish meal and seven percent of the fish oil market globally.
