Cost Of Engineering Breakwater For Access To Partridge Island Between $27-32M

The results are in on a feasibility study into whether the breakwater connecting Partridge Island to Saint John can be used as a public access route for visitors.

The study has concluded that the breakwater can be engineered for safe travel by passengers at a cost of between $27-million and $32-million dollars. $200,000 was allocated by the federal government in 2014 for the study.

The former quarantine station off the cost of the Port City has been off-limits for decades though people still make the trek. The island as designated a national historic site of Canada in the 1970s because of the major role it had in immigration to the Maritimes in the 1800s. There has been talk of developing the island into a tourist destination for years now.
