It’s now your turn to have a say on the draft Central Peninsula Neighbourhood Plan.
Common Council got their first look at the plan last week and approved the public engagement phase on Tuesday night.
Kay Gillis is chair of the Neighbourhood Action Team and says this long overdue plan isn’t just about the Central Peninsula.
“This is a plan that is for a very important part of our city that most Saint Johners interact with in one way or another every day or every week,” says Gillis.
She says the plan incorporates a lot of what they’ve heard from residents and what they envision for the Central Peninsula.
Ideas include enhancing Rainbow Park, improving streetscapes to encourage reinvestment, and turning the old sugar site into a recreation destination.
Councillor Blake Armstrong says this is a step in the right direction for the city.
“50 years ago, we tried it the other way, and that’s why we have a hospital out there, that’s why you have a university out in the middle of nowhere, and that’s why Saint John is where it’s at.”
Public engagement will run until June 29 and include a storefront at the City Market, focus groups with key stakeholders, and written feedback from the public.
