Council To Help Fund Feasibility Study For Sydney Street Courthouse

Common Council will provide half of the funding for a feasibility study that will look into the possibility of the Sydney Street courthouse being the new home for the Saint John Theatre Company.

Council will pay for $19,000 of the $38,000 feasibility study.

The money will cover the costs for half of the engineering review and design of the property with the Regional Development Corporation covering the other half.

The Saint John Theatre Company see the nearly 200-year old building as a possible location for a new professional residency program called the Atlantic repertory company, which would benefit recent university graduates.

The Historical Society of New Brunswick thought the courthouse would be a great location for the new city hall, but in the end, would just like to see the building safe from demolition.
