Crews Respond To Fire At Irving Pulp and Paper Mill

Fire crews responding to a blaze yesterday afternoon at the Irving Pulp & Paper mill at Reversing Falls.

Platoon chief Todd Walsh of the Saint John Fire Department says the call came in shortly before 5 p.m.

“A fire had ignited in one of the hopper structures just outside of the main section of the mill,” says Walsh.

About a dozen firefighters and three fire trucks were sent to the scene, he says.

“Eight of those firefighters and the chief officer remained on scene for approximately three hours,” says Walsh, “with the remaining engine truck remaining on scene for a further hour just to ensure that there was no further fire within the structure.”

No employees or firefighters were hurt as a result.
