After more than 800 games with the hockey organization, a beloved member of the Saint John Sea Dogs has announced his retirement.
David “DK” Kelly, who has been an inspiration to many in the face of cancer, has announced he is leaving the Sea Dogs after 13 seasons with the team to focus on the #TeamDK movement and his fundraising initiatives.
Kelly is leading the Monkey Band-Aid Apparel program to raise money for the Saint John Regional Hospital Oncology Centre.
“It has been 13 incredible seasons with the Sea Dogs,” says Kelly. “I have won everything there is to win at this level and want to focus on all my energy on making a difference in the world, specifically in Saint John.”
DK started his career with the Sea Dogs as head equipment manager until last November when he became senior advisor to hockey operations. DK also has three President Cup championships and a MasterCard Memorial Cup under his belt with the Sea Dogs.
The announcement has sparked an outpouring of well-wishes on social media including from Q-league teams in the Maritimes.
