Residents in St. Stephen are being warned of another rabies case, and the Mayor wants everyone to be cautious of any other rabid animals.
A badly decomposed raccoon was found July 31st, in a shed on Riverside Drive in St. Stephen.
Mayor Allan MacEachern says there was still some spinal cord tissue on the dead raccoon available for testing, and the Canadian Food Inspection Agency confirmed the animal was rabid.
This makes the 31st rabies case in New Brunswick since 2014, 26 raccoons and 5 skunks, and the 4th case for this year. Most of those rabid animals were found in the Charlotte County area.
Mayor MacEachern says the area on Riverside Drive has been baited, and heavily baited again with rabbies vaccine, as well as surrounding areas.
He still asks everyone to be cautious of any wild animals that are acting friendly or out of sorts.
