Today’s historic meeting between the presidents of North and South Korea and a declaration that they will formally end the Korean War this November is a significant moment in history.
That according to Lee Windsor Deputy Director of the Gregg Centre for Conflict Studies at the University of New Brunswick.
Windsor tells us with the threats of a nuclear exchange between North Korea and the US this is good to see.
“With everyone biting their fingernails for so long, I don’t think I’m alone in welcoming this news as a bit of a breath of fresh air, and a breather and a respite from the tension,” says Windsor.
Windsor says only time will tell if US President Donald Trump was behind this peace agreement. Trump is headed to the region shortly.
“That’s the question that historians will be asking in the years to come,” says Windsor.
