Dennis Oland Retrial Resumes

More video testimony from Dennis Oland’s first trial was shown at his retrial Tuesday morning.

Joy Kearsey was a DNA scientist with the national RCMP lab when she first testified in November 2015.

Kearsey took the Crown through her CV and was deemed an expert in her field.

She explained to the court what DNA is, where it can be found on the body, and how we each get exactly half from our mother and father.

In a PowerPoint presentation, Kearsey described Locards Exchange Principle, which says when two objects come into contact, a transfer of material such as cells containing DNA will occur.

Dennis is charged with second-degree murder in the July 2011 death of his father, Richard.
