Diamonds In The Rough

With a lot of ideas emerging on how to make the South-Central Peninsula a more attractive place to live, how many of them can be achieved considering the city’s tight finances.

Kay Gillis, a founding member of the South Central Social Committee, grew up in that part of the city and decided to buy a house and settle there. She maintains some of the ideas can be acted upon immediately such as having more garbage cans around and doing something about dilapidated buildings. Common Councillor Gerry Lowe says he investigated one such dilapidated building and found out the owner lived in B-C.

Gillis adds many of the ideas that emerged from a summit on revitalising the South-Central Committee can be used as guidelines for the city over the next 15, 20 or even 25 years.

Another participant suggested when it comes to new development, there should be what she calls respectful creativity.

According to Gillis, the South Central Peninsula has all sorts of potential and is more than many people expect with diamonds in the rough that just need to be brought out.
