Diesel and heating oil prices took an unexpected jump overnight and set new record highs.
This comes after the New Brunswick Energy and Utilities Board (NBEUB) used its interrupter clause.
Diesel prices climbed by nearly 17 cents to a record high of just over $2.37 per litre.
That includes a 2.68-cent-per-litre increase in the province’s carbon tax which took effect Friday.
Diesel prices have climbed three times over the past eight days by a total of 39 cents.
The new maximum price for furnace oil is just over $2.13 per litre, an increase of nearly 12 cents.
Meanwhile, gasoline prices rose by 2.6 cents per litre as a result of the carbon tax increase.
The new maximum price stands at just over $1.76 per litre.
