Economic growth in the Atlantic region is below the national average during the first three months of this year with negative growth in real wages and retail sales down. That report from the Atlantic Provinces Economic Council.
Senior Policy Analyst Fred Bergman says, on the other side of the coin, housing in New Brunswick is going great guns and the provincial government’s intention to hire 250 teachers won’t hurt. Housing starts are up about 94 per cent and new housing construction investment rose 7 and a half per cent in the first quarter.
There is lingering concern over the charges to service the provincial debt which ranges $900 to $925 a person.
