Elimination Of Snow Days Would Be Dangerous

Our harsh winter weather has caused some controversy over the number of days schools have been closed and whether too much classroom time has been lost.

Education Minister Serge Rouselle has formed an Anglophone committee and a Francophone committee to look at the issue and see if there is a solution.

Rob Fowler, who chairs the District Education Council that goes from Sussex to St. Stephen, doesn’t think eliminating snow days altogether is realistic. He believes it would be dangerous for young children to try to make their way to school during a storm, having to walk on the road to get there and he would rather be safe than sorry.

Besides, Fowler says with technology these days, teachers can tweet assignments students can do when they’re at home.
