EMO Says Clean Your Catch Basins And Eavestroughs Now

As if we didn’t get enough rain on Sunday and the flooding that went with it, Environment Canada has issued a rain warning for Thursday with close to 40 mm expected by the end of the day.

The provincial EMO’s Geoffrey Downey is urging residents who may have ice build up around catch basins near their homes to tackle that now before the heavy rain comes down.

“If the drains are open the water will move its way off roads and away from houses so once you check your drains to see if they are working, check your eavestrough to make sure the water is being directed away from the house when it does fall.”

Downey says it’s all a very good idea to keep a 72-hour emergency preparedness kit in your home and have an emergency kit in your car should you become stranded by potential flood waters.
