Many events are taking place in Saint John on Sunday to mark Loyalist Day.
It is the 242nd anniversary since the Loyalists landed in the Port City back in 1783.
Sunday also marks 240 years since Saint John became Canada’s first incorporated city.
Members of the 3rd Field Artillery Regiment (The Loyal Company) will fire a 21-round gun salute from Fort Howe at noon.
The regiment is the oldest continuously serving artillery unit in Canada, serving the people of Saint John since 1793.
Other events include a wreath-laying ceremony in the Loyalist Burial Ground at 12:30 p.m. and a walk-and-talk with author and storyteller David Goss at 7:15 p.m.
Trinity Anglican Church — the city’s first church community tracing its roots back to the Loyalist’s arrival in 1783 — will also be open for tours 12:15 to 1:30 p.m.
In addition, Andrew Waldschutz will also offer two performances on the church’s recently refurbished bells at 10:15 a.m. and 12:15 p.m.
