Heroes collide. The 2026 Battle of the Badges Tournament presented by Saint John Firefighters is set for February 6-8 at TD Station; a first-responder hockey tournament showcasing police\, fire\, and sheriffs department teams from across New Brunswick \nThe 2026 Battle of the Badges Tournament presented by the Saint John Firefighters Association will feature two pools\, A and B\, with four teams in each. Pool A will include the Fredericton Firefighters\, New Brunswick Sheriffs\, Saint John Firefighters\, and Saint John Police\, while Pool B will feature the Codiac Police\, Oromocto Firefighters\, Fredericton Police\, and Kennebecasis Valley Firefighters. \n \nThe three-day tournament runs from Friday\, Feb. 6 to Sunday\, Feb. 8\, 2026\, at TD Station. Teams will compete in round-robin pool play to determine semifinal matchups\, with the top four teams advancing to the semifinals. Her groundbreaking approach gave birth to the style of singing referred to as ‘scat’\, which fearlessly bound together tone\, rhythm\, timing and improvisation. \nThis February\, Atlantic Canada’s own jazz powerhouse Dee Hernandez will honour Fitzgerald’s treasured legacy with a heartfelt tribute tour during Black History Month 2026. Being a lifelong fan of the work of Fitzgerald\, Hernandez and her combo of accomplished jazz veterans will channel the soul\, swing\, and spirit of one of her greatest musical idols. \n“Ella has always been more than an inspiration to me\, not only as a vocalist\, but as a human being\,” says Hernandez. “She carried herself with grace and integrity during one of the most difficult times in history\, never compromising her values. Despite the racial tensions of her era\, she refused to perform for segregated audiences and stood firmly for equality. He continues to tour his solo shows The Heterosexuals and Iggy Beamish Destroys Traditional Marriage both across Canada and internationally\, including a recent Off-Broadway debut at The SoHo Playhouse in New York City. His first solo show\, Redheaded Stepchild\, toured Canada coast-to-coast and was published by Playwrights Canada Press. His play Shove It Down My Throat premiered at Buddies in Bad Times Theatre in Toronto as part of their 40th Anniversary Season in 2019. Johnnie is also a founding member of BoylesqueTO and has written and hosted dozens of shows for the troupe\, which have been performed across North America and been honoured at the Burlesque Hall of Fame in Las Vegas.
