SUMMARY:RHS Relay For Life event
DESCRIPTION:The Rothesay High School is proud to host its very first Relay For Life event—a meaningful and inspiring day dedicated to coming together in the fight against cancer. Relay For Life is a community celebration that honours survivors\, remembers loved ones\, and supports those currently facing cancer\, all while raising vital funds for life-saving research and support programs. \n\nA key part of the event is participants walking the track together throughout the day\, symbolizing the ongoing journey of those affected by cancer and showing that no one faces it alone.\n \nThis year\, our goal is to raise $10\,000 in support of the Canadian Cancer Society\, helping to fund groundbreaking research\, patient services\, and advocacy efforts across the country.\n \nThe event will take place May 16th from 10am-6pm @ the Rothesay Commons and will be filled with energy\, hope\, and plenty of fun for all ages. Families can enjoy a wide range of activities including bouncy castles\, face painting\, water games\, and more\, making it a day that brings the whole community together for an important cause.\n \nParticipants are required to register in advance through the event website\, so be sure to sign up and secure your spot.\n \nJoin us as we take our first steps as a community in this powerful movement—celebrating strength\, supporting one another\, and making a difference.

SUMMARY:Ballet Kelowna: taqəš and Other Works
DESCRIPTION:The taqəš and Other Works program features a stunning lineup of signature works from Ballet Kelowna’s contemporary ballet repertoire. With Cameron Fraser-Monroe’s compelling taqəš\, Alysa Pires’ striking Vestiges\, and Guillaume Côté’s electrifying Le Carnaval des Animaux\, this high-energy program from Canada’s leading dancemakers promises to please a wide range of spectators. \nCameron Fraser-Monroe brings his classical ballet training\, knowledge of traditional Coast Salish\, Grass\, and Hoop Dance\, and experience as a contemporary dancer to taqəš [tawKESH]\, which means “to return something” in Ayajuthem\, the language belonging to the Homalco\, Klahoose\, K’omoks\, and Tla’amin Nations. Set to several songs by Polaris Prize-winning composer and singer Jeremy Dutcher\, taqəš follows the traditional story “Raven Returns the Water\,” centred around ῤoho (raven) and walθ (frog). \nNext\, award-winning choreographer Alysa Pires constructs a striking commentary on the search for true connection and meaning amid disorder. Set to the cinematic melodies of violinist Hilary Hahn and composer Hauschka\, Vestiges highlights the virtuosity of Pires’ bold and lively choreography. \nRounding out the program\, Guillaume Côté\, recently retired Principal Dancer and Chorographic Associate with The National Ballet of Canada\, applies his fresh\, artistic vision to a jovial rendition of Camille Saint-Saëns’ Le Carnaval des Animaux\, regarded as one of the French composer’s best-known works. Full of whimsical ornamentation\, this upbeat ensemble piece pushes the limits of contemporary ballet and promises to delight audiences with its exuberant energy of frolicking and fun. \ntaqəš\nChoreography: Cameron Fraser-Monroe\nMusic: Jeremy Dutcher\, Oqiton\, Essuwonike\, Ultestakon | Wolastoqiyik Lintuwakonawa\nLighting Design: Rylee Block after James Proudfoot\nCostume Concept: Cameron Fraser-Monroe\nDancers: TBD \nPause \nVestiges \nChoreography: Alysa Pires\nMusic: Hilary Hahn and Hauschka\nLighting Design: Rylee Block\nCostume Concept: Alysa Pires\nCostume Couturier: Colleen Bryant | KOCO\nDancers: TBD \nIntermission \nLe Carnaval des Animaux \nChoreography: Guillaume Côté\nMusic: Camille Saint-Saëns\, Le Carnaval des animaux\nLighting Design: Rylee Block\nCostumes: TBD\nDancers: TBD \n  \nCAMERON FRASER-MONROE | Choreographer\, taqəš \n \nCameron Fraser-Monroe is a member of the Tla’amin First Nation. SUMMARY:TAKING ON WATER
DESCRIPTION:A Powerful Look at Life on a Changing Coastline with renowned Canadian theatre-maker Robert Chafe \n\n\n\n\n\nSERIES: Presentation\n\n\n\n\n\nTaking on Water is a spellbinding blend of theatre\, music\, and movement that brings the stories of coastal Newfoundland and Labrador to life. \nAward-winning actor and writer Robert Chafe interviewed residents living and working along a rapidly changing ocean. From their voices\, he crafted vivid\, magic-realist tales of communities swallowed by storms\, villages made of blue glass\, and places that vanished. \nThese stories unfold onstage through the unforgettable performances of Robert Chafe\, dancer and storyteller Louise Moyes\, and the acclaimed Duo Concertante (Nancy Dahn\, violin; Timothy Steeves\, piano)\, with an evocative original score by composer Randolph Peters. \nSometimes funny\, always deeply moving\, Taking on Water is an imaginative journey into the environmental pressures—and resilient spirit—shaping coastal life today. Don’t miss this powerful and timely theatrical experience. \n
