Exceeding the budget for overtime hours seems to be an ongoing issue for the Saint John Police Force.
From the beginning of this year to the end of April, overtime costs exceeded budget by over $60,000.
Mayor Mel Norton says the city can’t afford to be going over budget every year.
Norton doesn’t think the city needs more police officers, saying the number of citizens has decreased by 20,000 people since the 80’s.
Nicole Paquet of the Police Comission says the collective agreement will be looked at again in September.
