Local hockey fans have been waiting patiently all year for this one.
On Thursday, November 1st, the World Under 17 Hockey Challenge is hosting exhibition games in Charlotte County.
St. Stephen Minor Hockey Communications Coordinator Cheri Russell says she and those within the organization are very excited.
“It’s big news, not only for our community, but for our little organization of St. Stephen Minor Hockey. We have a lot of young men and women who are currently starting to branch out.”
She tells us when she was a kid, you pretty much played hockey in your own community, and that was it.
“Now kids are getting these bigger opportunities to go to other places. So this exposure for our kids to see what else they can do is monumental.”
She says we’ve been very fortunate in St. Stephen to be bringing the global stage to our kids, “Through high-level hockey, such as the St. Stephen Aces, and now this, I think it’s hugely motivational to them.”
At the Garcelon Civic Center in St. Stephen, Team Canada Red will take on the USA, at the same time in Blacks Harbour, Sweden will play the Czech Republic.
Tickets have been sold out since the announcement was first made in April of 2018.
