New Brunswick became the first province to strike a long-term health care agreement with Ottawa last month which was worth an estimated $1.2 billion over ten years.
The agreement included funding for mental health and home care which is designed to improve access to those services.
Federal Health Minister Jane Philpott stopped in Moncton today and along with her provincial counterpart Victor Boudreau was looking at some of the programs being offered in the province.
“We met folks who are involved in a mobile mental wellness crisis teams who are doing good work to deliver services and help to keep people out of hospital as much as possible,” she notes.
Under New Brunswick’s recent deal, the province will receive $230 million more in funding from the federal government over the next decade.
Philpott says the additional funding is designed to expand access to mental health and home care services for New Brunswickers.
