Fire At Saint Andrews Campground Deemed Suspicious

Police say a fire that destroyed a large building at a Saint Andrews campground has been deemed suspicious.

Firefighters were were called Kiwanis Oceanfront Camping on Water Street just after 7 a.m. Wednesday.

RCMP say the building, which was used for storage and events, was destroyed in the fire.

“The New Brunswick Fire Marshal was consulted, and deemed the fire to be suspicious in nature,” RCMP said in a news release on Friday.

Kevin Theriault, chief of the Saint Andrews Fire Department, said crews managed to keep the blaze from spreading to a nearby propane tank.

Theriault said the fire was contained to one building, adding any trailers that would normally be nearby were moved out for the winter.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Saint Andrews RCMP at 506-755-1130 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
