Fire causes significant damage to Saint John home

Fire has caused significant damage to a home in the Red Head area of Saint John.

First responders were called to Bundy Lane off Old Black River Road shortly after 3:30 p.m. Tuesday.

“The first crews on scene were met with heavy fire and smoke coming from a single-storey home,” Andrew Rooney, acting platoon chief with the Saint John Fire Department, said in an interview.

“We had multiple vehicles and multiple crews with multiple lines off attacking this fire.”

The fire was brought under control a short time later, he said, and crews were on the scene for almost 90 minutes.

Rooney noted the home was unoccupied at the time of the fire and no injuries were reported.

While the cause of the blaze remains under investigation, the acting platoon chief said it does not appear to be suspicious at this time.
