Fire Damages East Saint John Home

A fire has damaged a one-storey home on the east side of Saint John.

Emergency crews were called to the Wilton Street home around 7 p.m. Monday.

Steve Voutour, a platoon chief with the Saint John Fire Department, said they found heavy smoke coming from the back of the home.

Voutour said firefighters made their way inside the home and quickly knocked down the flames.

The home suffered heavy smoke and water damage and moderate structural damage, he said.

No one was home at the time and no firefighters were hurt.

Voutour said fire officials and police continue to investigate the cause of the blaze.

About 18 firefighters responded to the call and were on the scene for about four hours, he said.
