Fire Damages North End Business

An early morning fire has damaged a convenience store in Saint John’s north end.

Crews were called to the structure fire on Taylor Avenue shortly after 4 a.m. Wednesday.

“First arriving crews fire within the front of the structure,” Platoon Chief Roy Byers said in an interview.

“The crews made a quick attack and were able to knock the fire down.”

Byers said the building suffered minor fire damage but significant smoke and water damage.

He said the building was constructed using cinder blocks, making it difficult to vent the heat and smoke from the structure.

“We did have one firefighter step through the roof but he was not injured,” he said.

Crews were on scene until shortly after 5 a.m. Wednesday.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation, said Byers.
