UPDATE: Fire Damages West Saint John Home

Six people are out of their homes after a fire damaged a two-unit building in west Saint John.

Platoon Chief Barry Oickle said fire crews were called to Prince Street West around 3 p.m. Friday.

Oickle said the first firefighters who arrived on the scene did not see any smoke or flames.

“However, once entering the building, there was a volume of smoke coming from the second storey of the two-storey wooden building,” said Oickle.

Oickle said the second arriving crew searched the building to make sure everyone had made it out.

He said firefighters quickly put out the fire and cleared the smoke from the building.

“There was moderate damage in the kitchen/laundry room area on the second storey of the building,” said Oickle.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation, he said.
