Fire destroys abandoned St. Stephen building

A fire that destroyed an abandoned building in St. Stephen is being treated as suspicious, according to police.

Emergency crews were called to a report of a structure fire at 80 Union Street around 9:30 p.m. Monday.

RCMP Sgt. Scott MacKenzie told our newsroom that the building had been vacant for several weeks.

The building was nothing more than a pile of rubble by Tuesday morning after crews fought the flames for several hours.

MacKenzie said no injuries were reported in the fire, adding that the cause remains under investigation.
