A fire on the east side last night. It broke out shortly before 8:00 in an apartment building at 15 Dresden Avenue. Platoon Chief Eric Garland says it started in a first floor apartment and had spread to the second floor apartment above it when fire crews arrived but they managed to prevent it from spreading further.
20 people were forced to leave the building and some won’t be able to go back for a day or so. Two firefighters sustained injuries. One firefighter got some debris in his eye while another suffered a cut to his hand. The cause is under investigation.
The first floor apartment where the fire began was heavily damaged.
Meantime, City Police are investigating after a rock was thrown through a window at a building on Carmarthen Street. A substance was then sprayed inside. Police suspect it may have been bear spray.
