As of this afternoon there’s 20 to 25 centimetres of fresh snow on the ground in the greater Saint John area and we’re in for between five and 10 more before the storm system eases off this evening.
That’s according to Environment Canada meteorologist Claude Cote who says that we had wind gust to 50 kilometres an hour and these strongs winds will last until midnight before easing off gradually.
When we spoke to Cote, he told us Fredericton and Greater Moncton are in the same boat when it comes to snow accumulation as Greater Saint John. With 25 to 30 centimetres of snowfall, the stretch betweebn Miramichi, Bouctouche and Kent County has the maximum snowfall accumulation.
The City says crews are still out clearing roads and sidewalks and that if you want to help out you can make sure when you’re clearing your own driveway to not push snow onto roads, sidewalks or fire hydrants. As well, keep kids away from snowbanks.
