Saint John’s former city manager will start a new job in Fredericton on Tuesday.
Jeff Trail has been hired as that city’s deputy chief administrative officer and will replace Murray Jamer, who retired in February.
Trail stepped down from his role in Saint John in August after three years in the position.
When making the announcement in June, he said he wanted to establish his home base permanently in his hometown of Fredericton.
“I’m proud of the City of Saint John’s accomplishments and the colleagues and residents I’ve worked with over the past three years,” Trail said in a statement. “Saint John has great potential and I’m confident in the leadership and the great team I’m leaving behind to continue to grow this city.”

Trail spent 10 years in senior leadership with the province as an assistant deputy minister, executive director and director, as well as almost 15 years in the manufacturing and real estate sectors.
“I am pleased to have Jeff join our outstanding team here at the City of Fredericton,” CAO Chris MacPherson said in a statement. “I look forward to his arrival.”
Saint John recently appointed deputy city manager Neil Jacobsen as acting city manager until they find a replacement for Trail.
