The Massachusetts Department of Corrections has released a statement on the death of former New England Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez who was found dead early this morning in his cell.
The statement reads lifesaving techniques were attempted and Hernandez was transported to hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Hernandez was in a single cell in the general population and hanged himself utilizing a bed sheet that he attached to his cell window.
He was recently acquitted on charges of a double murder in a Boston shooting. He was serving a life sentence for the murder of Odin Lloyd.
