Former Sea Dogs coaches to join hall of fame

Two former Saint John Sea Dogs coaches are becoming part of the team’s hall of fame.

Gerard Gallant and Mike Kelly will be inducted during a ceremony on Friday evening.

Gallant served as the head coach of the Sea Dogs for three seasons from 2009 to 2012.

He led the team to three first-place finishes, two league championships and a Memorial Cup.

Gallant then went on to coach with the Montreal Canadiens, Florida Panthers, Vegas Golden Knights, and New York Rangers.

Mike Kelly was associate coach of the Sea Dogs from 2010 to 2012 and head coach from 2012 to 2014.

Kelly was hired onto Gallant’s staff with the Panthers in 2014 and with the Golden Knights in 2017.

Friday’s induction will take place at Imperial Theatre in Saint John at 7 p.m.

Gallant and Kelly will join the ranks of Jonathan Huberdeau and Mike Thomas.

Thomas Chabot, who is also being inducted this year, will be honoured at a later date.
